Actively Hiring For:

  • Substitute Teacher — Ongoing need, on-call

    — Updated July 2023 —

Berkeley Forest School teachers may find themselves in a situation where a sudden rainstorm blows our way, and we need to switch gears to tying up tarps and rain canopies, while simultaneously comforting a parent who is dropping off their favorite little person in the rain for the first time! Are you ready to do that with a confident and reassuring smile?

For the 2023-2024 school year, compensation for the lead teaching positions is $33-36 /hour, depending on skill and experience level. Substitutes and assistant teachers start at $28 / hour or higher, depending on experience and skill level.

We recognize that although Environmental Education degrees are wonderful and helpful in preparing someone for a forest school teacher career, these programs are inaccessible to many people who gain their knowledge and experience elsewhere. We aim to support dedicated teachers in finding avenues to get the training and education they seek to be confident in their forest school teaching practice. There are many ways to be in this world, and we’re glad your path has brought you to these words today.

Come play in the dirt with us!
